Yosemite National Park Wilderness At It's Best
Yosemite National Park is the best-known of a collection of preserved wildlands in California's Sierra Nevada, a spectacular mountain range near California's border with the state of Nevada. Yosemite National Park covers nearly 1,200 square miles, for a total of 761,266 acres. Some of Yosemite's peaks soar to above 13,000 feet above sea level. The vast bulk of this area can be visited only on foot or horseback by means of overnight wilderness travel, but there is still plenty to see within a short distance of the roads. The park averages 3.4 million visitors each year but less than 1% of the total park is toured, leaving you a lot of wilderness to explore.
