Know Me

When you look at me,
You see someone you don't want to get to know.

You don't know where I've been
And you don't know my sins.

You judge,
Don't pretend like you don't
Because everyone does.

I hear those faint whispers,
As I make my way down the hallway.
Those whispers are the one thing that breaks my heart.

You never got to know me
And why should you
Just because I'm not like you.

We're supposed to be different,
But then we're criticized for it.

Don't pity me because of what you think you know
When the truth is you don't know a thing.

You don't know my family,
You don't know my friends,
You don't know where I've been
Or where I want to go
But, you sure don't know me.

Tell me that you know me
I dare you.

That was what I got when I asked you.
When I asked you if you wanted to get to know me.
