I've learned that it's true that as a teenager becomes an adult and has adult experiences, their parents suddenly seem to become smarter. That's how I experienced it and I hope that's how my stepson feels now that he's 29.

Just Human

Sometimes is the opposite: As a child and later a teenager I thought my parents were infalible "superheroes" and that they knew the answer to every question imaginable. Because of this I was always worried that I would never be as wise as them and that I would somehow dissapoint them. As I grew into an adult I realized that even though they were great people they had their faults, their weaknesses just like everyone else. For a while it was difficult to see the pedestal where I had put them come crumbling down but later this very same knowledge helped me relate to them in a more "human" way and accept my own faults and weaknesses.
