Stains On Your Carpet...Helpful Hints To Get Them Out.

Your carpets can take quite the beating. Especially in households with children and pets, cleaning carpet stains can easily become part of a daily routine. It is almost enough to make you want to completely rip the carpet from the floor. Before you go to extremes, here are a few simple homemade carpet stain removal solutions to consider. These home remedies are not only cost effective, but healthy for you and your family.

Most commercial carpet cleaning solutions contain chemicals and other substances you would not let your family handle, much less disperse throughout your home. Before you douse your carpet with chemicals, try using one of these safe and simple household items to knock out stains for good.

Before attempting any of these home remedies, always do a spot test. And remember to always blot stains with warm water first, never rub.

1.Colored beverages –

A mixture of water and vinegar works well with most stains. Some recommend adding in a bit of dishwasher detergent into the mix. However, most dish detergents contain some of the same harmful chemicals found in commercial carpet cleaners. If you decide to use a dish cleaner on your carpet make sure you use something natural like Borax or Seventh Generation.

2.Coffee/Cola –

Brown beverages leave brown nasty stains that can be extremely difficult to remove if not attacked quickly. Same with colored beverages, a mix of water and vinegar will do wonders. For more absorbent power sprinkle stains with baking soda and blot up with warm water, followed by the vaccum.

3.Ink Stain –

Warning: pens explode when chewed. If you need to take care of an ink stain, again, water and vinegar (See a theme developing here?). Also, blotting with water or acidic products like cream of tartar, rubbing alcohol, toothpaste or shaving cream (foam not gel) works well.

4.Pet Urine –

Baking soda sprinkled over a pet accident helps eliminate odors and pulls the stain from the carpet. As with most other stains vinegar and warm water will also do the trick. Hydrogen peroxide, natural dish soap, baking soda and warm water combined make for the best all-natural pet stain busting solution.
