Save time and reduce aggravation with these home repair tips.

If you own a home, these home repair tips can save you time, money and aggravation.

Let's get started:

What is the most important thing you can do as a homeowner to insure your home repair costs are not out of line?

We're not going to beat around the bush. The most important thing you can do right now to keep home repair costs down is...to not wait for something to break before you do your research. Calling blind at the time of an emergency is a mistake. People are doing that all the time.

You own the home. Nothing is broken at present. Now is the time to do research on what plumber you are going to call when you need some plumbing repaired or replaced. The same applies to electrical contractors, roof contractors, etc.

People end up paying too much or get bad service when they wait until there is an emergency. Don't let yourself become one of those people. Form your list of companies to use for repairs now, when you don't need them. You can be more objective. You'll have time to check references. You'll know what a company's reputation is in the community.

This is the most important tip of our home repair tips! Don't let this one pass you by. Now is the time.

Home repair bids - how to tell if what you've been given is fair.

You're probably not an expert on home repair. So how do you know if you've been given a fair bid on a project you need done? Here's what is most important: Don't get less than three bids on the project. Having three bids will give you a better clue as to what is fair. Certainly better than assuming the first bid you get is fair. Here's a key...the world is not fair. Especially in home repairs. It's buyer beware.

Here's another important point about obtaining your three bids - make sure each one is itemized. You have to compare apples to apples. If one bid comes in low and the reason is something left off, you're going to be sorry if you accept it.

This is the second most important of our home repair tips! These first two should not be ignored.

Home repair - Garage Doors.

It's possible that the metal tracks inside the garage are loose. Not a good thing. This one is simple, just tighten down the bolts or screws at the brackets. You might also want to lubricate the tracks and rollers.

Home repair - on clothes dryer.

Did you know that one of the simplest things to check if your clothes dryer is not working is the dryer's door switch. If it is broken, your dryer will not start. Solution...replace it.

How to clean up wet oil stains on the driveway.

"Driveway Oil Clean Up

The vehicle owned by the previous owners of our house leaked oil on the driveway. It is still quite wet. What is the best way to clean this up?

The best cleaner I have found is kitty litter. If you scrub it in with a block of wood (a piece of 2x4) you can scrub out some nasty stains. "
