Do you know about supplements for prostate cancer? Perhaps you should.

As with the prevention of many diseases, the first consideration is eating a healthy diet and regular exercise. Lowering the consumption of animal fat and increasing fresh fruits and vegetables combined with a good regimen of exercise is known to help prevent many diseases, even prostate cancer. To make that even more effective, adding specific supplements to the daily routine maximizes the risk reduction of prostate cancer.

An easy way to get some good supplements is by drinking green tea and/or black tea. Both teas are good sources of antioxidant polyphenols that fight free radicals. Drinking tea, either hot or iced is a far better option than drinking such sugar loaded beverages like soda. In addition to being healthier, it is more refreshing and helps to keep the body hydrated.

Another surprise in the arsenal of supplements for prostate cancer is lycopene. This supplement is extracted from tomatoes. Eating more tomatoes will provide this but if that is not something you can do every day, it can also be taken as a dietary supplement on a daily basis. Lycopene helps prevent prostate cancer by reducing BPH inflammation.

Florida's Seminole Indians have used Saw Palmetto for hundreds of years to treat many health problems. It is now being proven to have great value in reducing the risk of prostate cancer. It is known to help shrink an enlarged prostate gland as well as provide relief for many urinary problems. Saw Palmetto comes from a small palm tree that is an Atlantic coast native.

Red Clover comes from the pea family and provides strong antioxidants. It inhibits the formation of DHT and this means it will inhibit prostate gland enlargement. It also stops many of the other symptoms as well.

Selenium is also a good supplement to add at 100 to 200 milligrams a day. Other supplements that are important in good prostate health and cancer prevention are zinc and vitamin B6. A deficiency in zinc causes the prostate to be predisposed to infection, eventually resulting in enlargement. Vitamin B6 prevents swelling in the prostate by means of regulation of the hormone responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT.

The best chance of preventing prostate cancer begins before there are any symptoms but that doesn't mean that these same measures can't help once they start. Good diet, exercise and taking supplements for prostate cancer will go a long way in giving aid against this devastating disease.
